The understanding and implementation of evidence synthesis methods are becoming mandatory for professionals of several fields. This workshop aims to provide an overview of the methodological steps for performing meta-analyses after a systematic review. The generation of robust and useful evidence for practice based on a meta-analysis relies on the:
- Develop a systematic review first.
- Appropriate data extraction for meta-analysis.
- Appropriate software use.
- Assessment of the methodological quality and risk of bias of primary studies.
- Quantitative synthesis of the evidence.
- Interpretation of the results obtained.
Outputs:
At the end of this workshop, participants should:
- Recognize the different types of meta-analysis.
- Understand the steps and components to perform a meta-analysis after a systematic review.
- Assessing if the studies and the data are suitable for a meta-analysis.
- Be familiar with software for meta-analysis.
- Understand the results of a meta-analysis.
